We have taken our child on many adventures, both locally and abroad. We’ve already taken trips outside the country and to many different states. Our son is three, and the chances of him remembering any of them are slim to none. That’s okay, though, because we have the pictures to prove them. We’re hoping he’s at the stage now where he will start remembering things, even if they are vague memories.
However, the memories created don’t have to be anything grand, like hiking in the Swiss Alps. They can be simple things that are routine, like reading a bedtime story, taking a bath, going to the park on Saturdays, or having ice cream on Friday nights to kick off the weekend. Children thrive on routine and enjoy knowing certain things will happen regularly, especially when they happen with people they love.
Yes, I’m sure our son will remember the trips we take in the future, but it may not always be the events we are thinking about. It may not be standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, but rather knowing he’s on a trip with Mom and Dad, his safe space. Kids remember the little things, so make the little things count.
